Travel with The Libbys | A Family Travel Guide to Todos Santos, Mexico

When most people think of a family vacation to Baja California, Cabo San Lucas is often the first destination that comes to mind. But just an hour north lies a charming, artsy surf town that completely stole our hearts—Todos Santos. This magical place offers a quieter, more soulful alternative to Cabo, with breathtaking landscapes, thoughtful design, and a warm, welcoming energy that makes you feel instantly at ease.

We first visited Todos Santos in 2023 to celebrate my 30th birthday (view the post here). It was one of those trips that stayed with us—the golden light, the laid-back rhythm, the kind locals, and the balance of creativity and calm. We left already dreaming of coming back with our daughter someday. And in early 2025, we did just that—this time with three generations in tow.

Since we were traveling with my mom, her fiancé, and our toddler, we opted for an Airbnb that could truly feel like home. Having our own bedrooms and bathrooms, a full kitchen, and plenty of communal space was a game-changer. But this wasn't just any Airbnb—it felt like our own private resort.

The property was incredibly kid-friendly, with a heated pool, a built-in trampoline, and a full playground that kept our toddler happy for hours. For the adults, the rooftop deck was a sanctuary with couches, a fireplace, and even a workout area with weights and space for yoga. It was peaceful, beautifully and intentionally designed, and fully equipped to keep all generations happy. And above all else, we felt so safe. Todos Santos has such a relaxed, welcoming vibe that made us feel at ease from the moment we arrived.

For Those Who Prefer Hotels…

If a hotel is more your style, Todos Santos offers a curated collection of boutique accommodations—many of which I can help book as a travel advisor (no extra fees for hotel bookings, and often with exclusive perks!). Here are a few of my favorite options:

  • Hotel San Cristobal Baja – Stylish and serene, this oceanfront retreat offers unbeatable sunsets and a chic, adults-only ambiance.

  • Villa Santa Cruz – A luxurious beachfront hideaway with beautifully appointed rooms, on-site dining, and a saltwater pool.

  • Paradero Todos Santos – An architectural gem that blends luxury with nature, perfect for design lovers and wellness seekers.

  • Todos Santos Boutique Hotel – Intimate and elegant with historic charm and modern flair, right in the heart of town.

  • Casa Blanca Madera – A peaceful, family-friendly stay surrounded by nature, with modern comforts and thoughtful details.

  • Desierto Azul – An eco-conscious hotel with a minimalist aesthetic, rooftop yoga, and a connection to the desert landscape.

Favorite Things To Do in Todos Santos

We filled our week with a mix of relaxation, local flavor, and memorable experiences. Some of our must-do’s:

  • Dinner at The Green Room – The most magical beachside dinner you can imagine. Think ocean waves, string lights, and fresh seafood.

  • Yoga at Cuatro Vientos – A beautiful escape for a little solo time (note: not kid-friendly, but so worth it).

  • Oystera + Santa Terra Reserve – Chic cocktails, fresh oysters, and fun shopping in one of the town’s most vibrant spots.

  • Sunday brunch at Baja Beans – Live music, local vendors, great coffee, and delicious food—this market is full of life.

  • Caracara at Villa Santa Cruz – One of the most beautiful dinner spots we visited. The design was stunning, and I may have had the best taco of my life here.

  • Day trip to Balandra Bay in La Paz – Crystal-clear shallow lagoon water perfect for little ones. You do need a reservation in advance.

  • Ice cream at Rocco + Baja Tasty – A sweet treat after a day in the sun—our toddler was in heaven.

  • Date night at SanToro – Just the two of us, dining at this cozy, romantic restaurant.

  • Beach day at Playa Las Palmas – A peaceful cove surrounded by palms—great for a low-key day with the fam.

  • Friday morning Farmers Market – A great way to meet locals, grab fresh produce, and enjoy the town’s community vibe.

  • Dinner at Jazamango – A farm-to-table experience that showcases the best of Baja’s flavors and hospitality.

  • Shop the local boutiques and artisan markets – Discover handmade goods, stylish clothing, and unique souvenirs that reflect the creative spirit of Todos Santos.

  • La Esquina Café – A beloved local spot offering delicious brunch options and organic coffee. Its relaxed, open-air setting is perfect for families, featuring a shaded playground that keeps little ones entertained while adults enjoy their meals.

Why We’ll Be Back

What we love most about Todos Santos is that it’s full of hidden gems—the kind of place you leave already planning your return. Even after a week, there were still so many things we didn’t get to. That’s always a good sign, right?

The town has this relaxed, artistic energy that welcomes you in and encourages you to slow down and stay awhile. For us, a week was the perfect amount of time, especially traveling from the East Coast. It gave us enough time to soak it all in without feeling rushed.

If you're planning a family getaway that includes grandparents, toddlers, and everyone in between—Todos Santos should absolutely be on your radar. Whether you go the Airbnb route or stay in one of the town’s boutique hotels, you’ll find it’s the kind of place that meets you exactly where you are in life and travel.

And if you need help booking your hotel stay or curating the ultimate itinerary, I’d love to help you plan your next trip. You can email: amanda.libby@fora.travel to get started.
