Is a first look right for you?
Doing a first look has become a popular tradition for weddings. Not sure what a first look is? A first look happens prior to the ceremony where the couple finds a private place to do the "big reveal". Often times, first looks happen away from the guests and allows the couple to see each other prior to walking down the aisle.
So is a first look right for you? As your wedding photographer, I try not to encourage couples one way or another. I often tell my clients to follow their heart. Imagine your wedding day and it's the first time you are seeing your partner. How do you envision it? Walking down the aisle surrounded by your family and friends? Or quietly secluded and more intimate moment?
There is no right or wrong way to first see your forever partner for the first time on your big day. Each couple and celebration is unique, so I encourage my couples to do what feels right to them.
If you are still not sure, here are a few things to consider:
Will your ceremony end after sunset? If so, a first look might be right for you. A first look will allow you to get all your portraits done with natural light and avoid having all your formal portraits done with flash photography.
Do you want to enjoy your cocktail party with your guests? Cut down on photo time after the ceremony by doing the majority of photos after your first look before the ceremony.
Does the thought of everyone staring at you, waiting for the right impression freak you out? Then consider a more intimate first look with just you and your partner.
